I was talking to a friend about my recent trip to Chicago and the importance of a visit to Molly’s Cupcakes. Annabelle and I LOVE cupcakes, and this little place is so delightful and quirky and fun…plus their cupcakes are just crazy delicious.
And then my friend dropped a bomb that I wasn’t expecting: she hates cupcakes.
Hello, rocky relationship. Seriously, who hates cupcakes? They’re so cute. And tasty. And CUTE.
But it made me think of foods, mainly seasonal foods, that I really dislike, that other people (especially other people that live inside my internets) seem to just love.
1. Peeps. And stale Peeps at that.
2. Candy Corn and Peanuts. Who thought this would be a good idea, and why does EVERYBODY in the blogosphere agree?
3. Egg Nog. To be clear, I try to avoid any beverages with “egg” in the title.
4. Cranberry Sauce. Especially the tin can molded jelly kind.
5. chopped up peppermints on top of otherwise delicious desserts. Yeah, it’s pretty, but why ruin a perfectly good brownie?
6. Any milk shake/ice cream that is supposed to taste like pie. Pie is pie, it is not meant to be served in liquid form. It’s meant to be served the way God intended: triangular. Or occasionally the big blob on the plate because the crust didn’t turn out quite right, but it’s too tasty to worry about geometry at a time like this because it’s TIME FOR PIE!
Banana Cream Pie=good. Banana Cream Pie Shake=bad. Baaaaaad.
So, now that most of you think that I’M the weird one, what are your food peeves?
Can I say that any color peppers make me cringe? They look so lovely, all piled up in the grocery, but they have the yuckiest smell and texture. And, although it is extremely un-American, I cannot make myself eat Watermelon in any form including candy flavored like it. Similar texture to peppers, I guess. I try to pretend that I will eat both things when I encounter them at grown up events, by doing childish things like hiding my portion.
I agree... pie-flavored drinks... eeeee. I prefer my eggs in baked goods, I suppose too ;)
I wonder if you're having your first snow today too... the weather dramatic is suggesting such things, after the 100 mile an hour wind passes.

Only 2 big ones I can think of now:
1. Candy canes, love them on a tree, hate that people (especially my kids) want to eat them. They are sticky, messy, and gross!
2. Nuts: they ruin cookies, brownies, cakes, and especially fudge(which I sooo crave at this time of year). As far as I am concerned, nuts belong in only one place, and that is probably too inappropriate to talk about here and now!

I have to agree with you on a bunch of these. Peeps, yuck. Egg nog and cranberry is also a no no. Jill, I have to agree on the watermelon! I have tried and tried and I can't seam to like it. Personal pet food peeves would have to be fast food joints. I eat at them very rarely and when I drive up I feel like a traitor to healthy eating and after working at a Mcdonalds in high school I have never been able to eat their since. I am not sure if this is a pet peeve or not, but it sure seams like it.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE all the things you mentioned except the pie shake thing. I don't know that I've ever had one, mostly I stick with vanilla.
Given a choice between vanilla and chocolate I will pick vanilla every single time. Not that if desperate I won't eat chocolate, just not my first pick.
Chewy candy.. now that ROCKS! :)

Girl, I am with you on all of those! I think Peeps are the most disgusting things ever and my husband and daughter LOVE them! Of course, I can't stand anything with marshmellows! I also can't stand jello with real fruit pieces. I mean if I wanted to have to chew my fruit, I would not be eating jello!!

Hmmm.... I totally agree with the Peeps thing- gross, but I do like the peanut/candy corn combo. Someone brought a big bowl to work and I tried it for the first time. Pretty yum- almost made me think of a Payday candy bar.
I've never tried a pie-shake... but I do love a pumpkin spice latte. I think it tastes like pumpkin pie!

For the first time this year I bought Peeps and ate one fresh purposely let the rest go stale -2 months or more and ate one could not tell much of a difference -not love or hate -just will not need to try that again! candy corn is cute -but just colored Sugar -I do not crave pure sugar, at least not w/out chocolate on it or nuts! Unlike Haley I love me some NUTS! And bring on the Egg Nog (esp with libations) ;) I was so happy to see Halloween Egg Nog this year! Now fresh Cranberries sauce IS THE BEST - and I cannot stand the sight of the smoothie thingy at McDonalds! (have never tasted though) NOR can I bring myself to taste the pumpkin spice latte! But CUPCAKES who in their right mind can't like a CUPCAKE??? That might be an unpardonable sin....(jk)

I am totally with you on the peeps and the candy corn - yuck and yuck. I like sweets, but nothing that tastes like you just licked out the sugar bowl. Ick.

I don't like peeps or candy corn either. It's a consistency thing with both of them. I don't like cranberry sauce either, or potatoes, but that's an allergy thing. I HATE chickpeas, again with the consistency. I've got issues. ;)
